For many people shopping for a vehicle, a successful test drive is the last thing to complete before they step into a salesperson's office and sign some paperwork. While your Nissan dealership may be eager to begin this process with you, you shouldn't feel obligated to move forward as soon as you complete a test drive. While it may be true that you like the vehicle and are thinking strongly about buying it, don't let yourself get caught up in the excitement of the moment. Instead, there's nothing wrong with slowing things down by offering one of the following statements to your salesperson.

"Let Me Sleep On It"

You never want to get started on the paperwork to buy a vehicle until you're 100 percent sure that you want it. Walking away from the auto dealership after the test drive and thinking about the vehicle before you make a decision about how you'll proceed is often a good idea. Don't be afraid to tell your sales rep that you need to sleep on things. Salespeople know that many customers need to take the process slowly and methodically, and will be understanding of your statement. You may also wish to add that you'll call the salesperson in 24 or 48 hours with a decision.

"I Need To Drive It Again"

You should never feel as though your test drive is your lone opportunity to evaluate the vehicle. If you're left with a few questions at the end of the test drive that prohibit you from making a decision on whether you wish to buy the car, simply tell your sales rep that you'll need to drive the vehicle again before you make your decision. Many car buyers take multiple test drives of the same vehicle to ensure that it's the right one. For example, you may wish to return with your children's car seats to assess how they fit in the car.

"I Want To Keep Looking"

Even if you enjoyed driving the car, you might have the feeling that a different model is best for you. Don't feel as though you need to move forward with the purchase just because you've gone through the test drive. If you feel that continuing to shop is the best option for you, simply share this sentiment. You can then talk about your specific needs with your salesperson, and he or she can ideally point you in the direction of a different vehicle that addresses them.
